Avenger |
 |
 |
|
The Avenger was our first game system. The first game offered with the machines was Duke Nukem software. The pod, cabinet, and Head Mounted Display are original design, while the software, tracker, and internal electronics are upgraded. Unreal Tournament, Nerf Arena Blast, and Virtual Knight are also featured on this system.
The Avenger game system is a flexible addition to any game room. It
is network capable and features real time tracking and immersive
game play.
The Avenger game system draws no more current than a standard
computer system (with a TV). |

Unpacking System: |
Your Avenger system consists of several major components.
Metal base (Octagon)
(4) Hand Rails
Equipment Cabinet
TV Stand
TV
Additional loose parts are:
Keys
(8) Mounting bolts for rails
(4) Mounting bolts for TV stand
(2) Wing nuts for cabinet
Instruction Manual
Unwrap your system and remove the equipment cabinet.
The equipment cabinet can be run independently from the rest of
the system.
Unlock the top latch above the bill acceptor. Raise the hood on
the cabinet.
Please remember how the HMD and the Handgrip and cables are
stored as this is the same position these items should be
returned to if the system is not in use.
Open the back large door access panel. Pull the computer forward
carefully. Look under the bill acceptor and make sure the power
supplies are plugged into the power strip. Make sure all the
cables are plugged into the back of the computer. Make sure the
power connector to the tracker is plugged in. Slide the computer
back and close the back door.
In the bottom of the cabinet on the back you will see two access
holes on either side. Slide your finger in the hole and push
down the bottom back access panel. It is hinged on the bottom.
Inside the panel you will find two cables:
Three wire RCA cable (for TV)
AC Power Cable
Push both wires through either side hole and close the bottom
access panel. Plug in the unit.
Remove the TV from its box and plug in the RCA cables to the
back of the TV and the power cord into the wall outlet.
Turn on the game system by flipping the power switch on the side
of the cabinet.
When the system first receives power you will hear the bill
acceptor reset with a clunk.
The computer will take approximately two minutes to completely
power up.
Once the system is fully up, you will see the configuration
screen countdown. Let it countdown normally until the game
enters its attract loop.
Once the game is in the attract loop, look on top of the Head
Mounted Display at the small plastic motion tracker. Push and
hold the reset button down for 10 seconds. This will initialize
the tracker to its new magnetic surroundings. If the side power
switch and not the wall outlet power the equipment cabinet down,
the tracker will retain its settings. Otherwise the tracker
could drift and need resetting.
Open the front access panel.
Inside you will see a manual credit switch.
Push the switch the number of times listed below, waiting a
second between pushes for the machine to register the credits.
Credit Count Setting
Once the credit count is reached the machine will begin its
instruction loop. Follow the instructions and don the HMD.
Push the Start button for the game to begin. The game will take
between 20 to 30 seconds to initialize.
You will be dropped into the “Fractal” game arena. Squeeze the
fire button on the Handgrip to begin the game. If you are
killed, keep your head level when you squeeze the fire button to
regenerate, this will be the base position the tracker will
start you out in.
Look around to make sure the tracker is functioning properly.
Look through each eyepiece to make sure there is an image on
each screen. You should hear sound through both headphone
speakers.
Push each of the buttons on the handgrip to make sure they work.
The Handgrip controls are:
Trigger – Fire button
Left thumb button – Alternate fire button
Middle thumb joystick – Move forward, back, strafe left and
strafe right.
Right thumb button – Change Weapon
Middle finger button – Jump
Lowest finger button – Duck
When the game times down to the full:

Immediately following the game exit will be a still screen of
the current score.

play.
Test the bill acceptor by inserting the number of bills required
to play. The credit count will increment by one each time a bill
is inserted. |

Assembling the System: |
Place the equipment cabinet against a wall near a power outlet.
Lay the metal octagon base with the square cutout facing the
equipment cabinet.
Insert the four arm rails into the base. The two with hinges go
to the front as these are the gates.
Secure the arm rails with two bolts each.
Tilt the equipment cabinet back a little and slide the base
underneath it. There are two bolts extending from the square
cutout section. Slide these bolts into the two holes on the
front of the equipment cabinet.
Mount the cabinet to the base using the two wing nuts provided.
Attach the TV stand to either side of the base with the four
small bolts.
Loosen the mounting bracket on the TV stand with a hex wrench.
Slide the TV into the bracket and hold the mount tightly against
the top of the TV while tightening the bracket. The center of
balance of the TV must be over the center of the pole. Usually
the center of balance is 3 to 4 inches away from the screen.

Game Operation: |
The start button is for single game play. The net button is only
used when there are more than one Avenger games hooked together.
The net button will allow more than one human player to be
present in the arena at a time.
Look in the direction you want to shoot. Your head controls your
aiming. Place the cross hairs on the opposing player and press
the fire button. Players will move quickly around you so be sure
to turn all the way around and look behind you often.
The alternate fire button is the first thumb button on the left.
It allows your weapon to be fired in a unique way. Sometimes in
the case of the blue shock rifle, you can fire an orb from the
alternate fire button and then fire a blast to explode the orb.
The direction thumb joystick controls the walking direction of
the player.
The change weapon button changes the weapon to the next
available selection. If you pick up a weapon, it will
automatically become your current weapon.
The jump and duck buttons are located on the finger grip.
White boxes marked with a cross are health packs. If you are
running low on health, walk across one of these packs to
increase your health.
Walk across weapons or ammo to pick them up.
The shield belt appears from time to time in the middle of the
arena. Grab this belt before the other players and it will give
you additional protection from blasts.
Be careful walking across the middle of the arena, the trap door
can open and you might fall through.
To open the trap door, shoot the arrows around the center of the
arena floor.
You can safely jump from the second level to the first without
incurring injury.
If you get killed, keep your head level and pull the fire button
to regenerate.
Your score consists of two items, frags and kills. Frags are the
number of kills you have made and kills are the number of times
you have died.
The player with the highest number of frags is the winner at the
end of the time limit.
Your name will be VR_Player1 or 2 and so on. |
