The ultra coaster is a motion simulator
that puts the rider in the middle of a fast paced roller coaster
ride. Other coaster simulators usually have video taped screens
with static roller coaster rides that were pre-programmed to
follow the video. The ultra coaster features a Head Mounted
Display for viewing the coaster in action. Not only does the
rider have a view forward, but also they can look over the edge
and watch the ground pass by. This new dynamic adds a sense of
reality to the experience. The ultra coaster is not
preprogrammed but uses the actual physics of the track itself to
determine the movement of the simulator. The simulator can duck
and surge as it follows along the track. The prototype of the
ultra coaster was presented at IAAPA 2000 in the Ronbotics
booth. The next generation of ultra coaster will feature a
fiberglass seat with overhead restraint. The rider will be able
to choose from one of six tracks to experience.
